Learn the basics of Hand-Lettering from Letterer, Illustrator and Ladyfingers co-founder Arley Torsone! This two-day class that occurs during two consecutive Saturdays in January is all you need to start turning your favorite words or phrases into beautiful layouts, creating logotypes or getting started on a hand-lettered font!

No experience is necessary for this introductory class that will cover the basic principles of typography and the construction of each uppercase and lowercase letterform of the serif and script alphabets. Through the practice of drawing with Pigma Microns (which will be supplied) and other tools that Arley uses in his own professional practice, students will gain the knowledge and confidence to find their own voice and style, learn the rules of hand-lettering...and then learn how to break them! 

Tuition includes hand-lettering packs that are stocked with pens, paper and Ladyfingers Letterpress swag.

ABOUT ARLEY: 

Arley discovered his love for lettering while pursuing his BFA at Parsons School of Design. It was the early 2000's, and the digital realm beckoned designers with it's steely-blue glow. Arley, however, was more drawn to the smell of pencil lead and ink, opting for the warmth of a naked overhead lightbulb illuminating his sheet of paper than the eye-zapping pixels from a computer screen. 

With over 20 years experience as a letterer, Arley is best known as the illustrator behind the award-winning stationery brand Ladyfingers Letterpress. Having created greeting cards and wedding invitations that have gone viral to designing custom hand-lettered fonts for brands like Little Caesars and Maker's Mark, Arley has taught lettering from Reykjavik, Iceland to the Google Headquarters in New York and more! He's been a Lettering Judge for the Type Directors Club TDC70 Competition! He's been the keynote speaker for the Greeting Card Association annual conference! He's performed at the MoMA PS1 with the Dirt Palace (without wearing any pants)! Tried rollerblading again at 40 without breaking anything! Mostly remembers to return things within the recommended window of time! Despite having accomplished the feat of raising three small kids through a pandemic while his wife ran the family business, he considers his lifetime achievement his Poop Font that can be viewed in the bathroom at Ladyfingers.
