In this two-Saturday intensive class, led by printmaker Morgan Calderini and lettering artist and illustrator Arley-Rose Torsone, students will create a hand-lettered layout and make letterpress prints - either a set of 8” x 10” prints or A2-sized (4.25” x 5.5”) greeting cards - on the Vandercook 219.
During the first Saturday, students will learn the basics of hand-lettering and will explore the various lettering styles that can be combined to create dynamic layouts. Students will be guided with one-on-one attention to create their own finished hand-lettered design piece, and by the end of the first day, we will digitally export the designs to become films that will be used to create letterpress plates for next week’s class.
The second Saturday will consist of creating letterpress plates and printing each student’s work on the Vandercook. At the end of the class, students will leave with either a set of beautiful 8” x 10” letterpress prints or A2-sized greeting cards of their hand-lettered creation!
