Friday, March 11 - Saturday, March 12, 2016
Join Ladyfingers Letterpress (Colorado, USA) and Reykjavík Letterpress (Reykjavík, Iceland) for a weekend workshop where you will learn the craft of Hand Lettering and produce a series of 50 letterpress printed cards of your favorite quote, illustration or sentiment!
Reykjavík Letterpress will host visiting artists and collaborators Arley-Rose Torsone and Morgan Calderini of Ladyfingers Letterpress for the two day class in their adorable studio in downtown Reykjavík. The first day of the workshop will focus on the instruction of Hand Lettering, and students will learn the basics of typography and lettering through the practice of drawing with the tools that the Ladyfingers use in their own professional practice. Students will also learn about the construction of a visual message and how to create a graphic piece that accurately reflects your tone and voice. The day will wrap up with learning how to digitize your illustration and prepare your design for letterpress. A film and polymer plate will be created from your design and will be ready to print the next day.
Day Two will carry your finished design into the realm of real ink and paper, translating it into a series of multiples using the Letterpress. You will have one-on-one dedicated press time with Ólöf and Hildur of Reykjavík Letterpress. We'll schedule each student to work with our team of highly meticulous press operators to turn your hand lettering into the prints of your dreams. We welcome you to spend the day observing other classmates's press time or exploring the different cultural offerings of DesignMarch
and downtown Reykjavík. Materials will be supplied, you need only a passion to learn lettering and a desire to manufacture multiple prints of your masterpiece!
Price is $400.00 per student, with two spaces open at $300.00 for qualifying students who are currently enrolled in college or high school. We are also offering a special scholarship for the cost of the tuition to one special student who expresses the most interest and need. In under 500 words or less, email us
your story and samples of your work by February 11th, 2016. A winner will be selected by the end of Februrary.
Tuition includes drawing tools, paper, ink, stationery goodies from Ladyfingers Letterpress, lunch for both days and a happy hour on Friday evening after the first day of the workshop!
